The Mercedes GLE coupe is a sporty two-seater with a distinctive design. It’s equipped with a 4.0-liter mild hybrid twin-turbo V-8 and it comes with a five-star rating from the Euro NCAP crash safety agency. Its performance is also impressive, with a 0 to 100 km/h time of 4.5 seconds and a top speed of 230 km/h.
4.0-liter mild hybrid twin-turbo V-8
The Mercedes-Benz GLE coupe is a sporty SUV that offers a range of options. It comes in two different body styles and with a choice of four-cylinder or six-cylinder engines. The coupes offer a high-performance ride with an athletic exterior and a luxurious interior. A redesigned model with new styling arrived for the 2020 model year.
The base engine is a 2.0-liter turbo-4 producing 255 horsepower. This turbo-4 also features a mild-hybrid system, adding 21 horsepower. The engine is paired with a starter-generator that works in conjunction with the gas engine to add torque during deceleration. The electric drive system also adds 184 lb-ft of torque. The coupe’s rear cross-traffic alert, head-up display, and AMG Sport exhaust system give the vehicle a sophisticated and athletic appearance.
AMG models have a more powerful, responsive engine. The GLE53 produces 429 horsepower from a 3.0-liter inline-six, while the GLE 63 produces 603 hp from a twin-turbo V-8. AMG models include active roll stabilization, stiffer air springs, and adaptive dampers.
Mercedes GLE coupes have an upscale interior with a thin row of physical controls and a digital instrument cluster. Some trims even come standard with metallic paint. A touchpad controller is found in the center console. There are also power-operated soft-close doors, a panoramic sunroof, and rear cross-traffic alert.
Several GLE coupes have a sloped roofline for a sportier appearance. Some of them are available in four-door coupe or four-door sedan versions. The SUV’s cargo space is ample, though less than that of the Porsche Cayenne.
Despite its relatively modest horsepower, the Mercedes GLE coupe is a great driving experience. Its V8 engines sound nice and provide a smooth ride. There’s plenty of power for passing and cornering, but the coupes do sacrifice some interior space for flashy styling.
The GLE is available as a coupe or sedan, and both models are offered with a four-year/50,000-mile warranty and a four-year roadside assistance plan. It’s also available in all-wheel-drive, making it an ideal vehicle for those who prefer to go off-road.
For the 2023 model year, the Mercedes GLE isn’t getting a lot of changes. It’s still a popular SUV, but it will no longer offer the GLC350e plug-in hybrid model. The GLE will continue to offer all-wheel drive and a range of turbo-6 engines.
60/40 split second row of seats
The new Mercedes GLE Coupe is a sporty sibling to the standard GLE luxury SUV. It boasts a sporty curved roofline and fastback design. The GLE Coupe is available with a variety of options, including Burmester audio, Multicontour massaging front seats, and heated rear seats. The GLE Coupe also features a rear cargo area.
The interior of the GLE is spacious and well-appointed. The cabin offers modern features like a dual 12.3-inch infotainment display, a touchpad between the front seats, and a center console mounted controller. The new GLS boasts a larger wheelbase than its predecessor, which translates to more room inside. This makes it easier to get in and out of the second and third rows of seats. Besides the extra room, the new GLS has a lot of cargo space, too. The trunk holds up to 93.8 cubic feet of cargo.
The new GLE boasts a 60/40 split folding bench seat in the second row. That’s different from the 40/20/40 split folding seats in the previous model. The 40/20/40 split-folding seats can fold 80% of the back seat, while the 60/40 split can fold 100%.
The GLE 550 comes with a 5.5-liter V8 Biturbo engine. It’s paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission and a 48-volt EQ Boost mild hybrid system. The engine has plenty of horsepower, too. The GLE 350 is the base model, and it’s powered by a 2.0-liter inline-4 turbo. The engine in the GLE 450 is a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6. The engine in the GLE 450 has a 9-speed automatic transmission and a 48-volt mild hybrid system.
The new Mercedes GLE is one of the most practical and luxurious SUVs around. It offers excellent passenger comfort and space, and it also boasts plenty of high-tech features, such as a power liftgate.
